Ice Caving at Katla
Iceland’s Katla volcano sits beneath its very own glacier, Kötlujökull. Every winter, spectacular new ice caves are created deep beneath the glacier surface. These jaw-dropping natural formations seem as if they’re carved out of the clear blue ice.
Also known as ice tunnels, the ice caves of Iceland are a must-see if you’re the adventurous type. They’re only accessible in the coldest winter months.
To get to them, you can join a super jeep tour that starts out at the adjoining Mýrdalsjökull glacier. You’ll pass spectacular formations, including deep crevasses in the ice, before arriving at the ice cave and being led in by your guide.
