On your way to Akureyri, we recommend that you stop by the folk museum at Glaumbær, located in an old turf farmhouse. The exhibits at Glaumbær focus on rural life in 18th and 19th Century Iceland. An amazing structure, Glaumbær is built from turf, stones and timber. On the museum grounds are two, fine examples of the first timber houses — named Áshús and Gilsstofa — built in the area during the 19th century.
