The small village of Hólmavík is the largest settlement in Strandir, lying on the east coast of the West Fjords. Hólmavík is know for its legendary, mythical history of witchcraft, witch-hunting and sorcery, and (quite appropriately) The Museum of Sorcery & Witchcraft can be found there. At the museum you will learn about the surreal world of the supernatural and about real-world witch-hunting during Iceland’s 17th century.
Fishing and sheep farming are the main trades in Hólmavík, and in the town you’ll also find the fabulous, Sheep Farming Museum dedicated to the Icelandic sheep and sheep farming. Learn all there is to know about sheep and sheep farming and then visit with the ;ambs and get to feed them milk from a bottle.
