In the northwest of Iceland, you’ll find the fishing village of Bolungarvík, just only 14 km. (about eight miles) from Ísafjörður. Bolungarvík is the northernmost village in the West Fjords and the second largest town after Ísafjörður. In the summertime take a drive up Bolafjall, and enjoy the spectacular view over Ísafjarðardjúp, Jökulfirðir; on a clear day you will be able to see a glimpse of Greenland. The road up the mountain is open from the middle of June until August/September, depending on road conditions. Don´t forget to visit the maritime museum, Ósvör, located on the east side of Bolungarvík . The curator there will welcome you dressed in a traditional fisherman’s outfit.
