Diamond Circle Air Tour from Akureyri

2 hours
The Goðafoss waterfall in North Iceland as seen from a helicopter

The Diamond Circle Air Tour takes you on a sightseeing scenic flight over Goðafoss waterfall, Lake Mývatn, and Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall.

Your experienced guide will provide you with all the necessary safety gear to enjoy the bright turquoise ice cave, which has formed under the glacier surface.

This tour starts by exploring Goðafoss, nicknamed the waterfall of the gods. Next up is Lake Mývatn, with its numerous scenic attractions and geothermal phenomena, pseudo craters, sulfur pools and the steam-energy electric powerplant of Krafla, with its deepest hole reaching two kilometers into the Earth’s crust.

From Krafla we fly over Vatnajökull National Park to see Europes’ most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss, a spectacular waterfall where cascades plunge from a height of 144 feet (44 meters) into a narrow canyon. You can literally feel Dettifoss’ powerful force, even from the air.

From Dettifoss waterfall we follow the magnificent canyon Jokulsargljufur, before returning for Akureyri, overflying the Þeystareykjar lava field and geothermal area.
