Reykjavik

Picturesque Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital city, is located in the island’s southwest and has a  population of about 123,000 inhabitants. “Reykjavík” means “smokey bay” in Icelandic.  Island lore says that the city was named by Ingólfur Arnarson, said to be Iceland’s first inhabitant. (The “smokey” part refers to the ever-present steam always rising from geothermal vents.)

Although Reykjavík is relatively small, it’s a lively, vibrant, modern city filled with engaging culture, amazing restaurants and cafes, colorful nightlife and perhaps the friendliest, most easy-going people on earth.
