So you can get the best deal and most flexibility, we don’t include flights with our packages.

Once you have a rough idea of when you want to travel, you can start searching for flights to Iceland. Of course, if you need help figuring out which airlines fly from your country, we’re happy to point you in the right direction. Simply get in touch if you need advice.

Thanks to its location in the North Atlantic, Iceland is well served by direct flights from lots of European countries and North America. If you’re coming from further afield, you’ll probably need a connecting flight.

As a rule of thumb, it’s best to book at least a few weeks before you plan to travel. For availability reasons, we’re unable to book trips with less than 1 week’s notice.

For the summer season, it’s a good idea to book a few months ahead of when you plan to travel. This is the most popular time of year to visit Iceland and places to stay can be limited in more remote areas.

If you’re planning to join a guided group tour, we recommend booking a few months in advance. Departures are restricted to certain dates and the most popular ones can get booked up.

Absolutely! For self-drive trips, you can pick your accommodation type and rental car. You can also add bonus activities in your free time, and extra nights in Reykjavík to the start or end of your trip.

For multi-day tours, you can pick your accommodation level and add some extra activities such as a trip to the Blue Lagoon (if it’s not already included in your package). Extra nights in Reykjavík are an option here too.

Other travel styles, like guided group tours, might have more limited customization options due to the nature of the trip. You’ll be able to see all the options available to you at checkout.

Good to know: We can’t guarantee stays at specific hotels or guesthouses, but we’ll always make sure that you get the standard of accommodation that you pay for. Read more about accommodation types.

If you’d like to make further customizations than those that are available to you at checkout, get in touch and we’d be happy to help. The additional charge for this service is €150. We offer 3 levels of accommodation: Budget, Comfort, and Quality. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to mix accommodation levels within the same package.

Yes, Iceland is a great destination for a family adventure!

If you’re a family of 4 traveling together, you’ll need to book at least 2 rooms. If there are more of you, you might need to book 3 rooms or more. In this case, the booking can take a bit of extra time to confirm.

If you prefer, you can drop off your rental car in Reykjavík or another urban location if you picked it up at the airport. You can also choose to drop it off at the airport if you collect it in Reykjavík. 

This service is available for an extra fee of ISK 5,000–9,900 depending on drop-off location, which you would pay to the car rental provider.

When you rent a car with us, you’ll always get basic liability insurance and collision damage waiver (CDW) included as standard. 

This is subject to an excess (deductible) that would need to be paid if you were to have an accident. You can pay to reduce the excess at the counter when you collect your car.

There you’ll also have the option to add gravel road and volcanic ash insurance. The car rental rep will be able to tell you how much this costs at the counter. For more info, see our car rental page.

On our website you can pay with Visa or Mastercard. Unfortunately we are not currently able to accept American Express.

When you book, we’ll ask you to pay a 5% deposit toward the total amount for your trip. You can pay off the remaining balance 30 days before your arrival date. We’ll send you an email to remind you of this with instructions on how to pay.

If you book with less than 30 days’ notice, we ask that you pay the full amount for your trip at the time of booking.

Once we’ve confirmed all the accommodation and services for your trip with our suppliers, we’ll send you all of your travel documents via email. These include your e-tickets, vouchers, and itinerary.

You don’t need to print these out for your arrival in Iceland, but you might want to just in case you’re unable to access them on your phone.

If you haven’t received your documents, take a look in your junk or spam folder. Some email apps filter out emails like these that include attachments.

If you need to modify your booking, you can do so up to 4 weeks before your arrival date. For all changes, we charge €50 per person. Some suppliers may charge an extra fee for modifications, which you would also need to pay.

Good to know: If there are less than 3 weeks to go until your arrival date, we might not be able to amend your booking.

We understand that sometimes plans change and you might need to cancel your trip altogether. That’s why we offer free rebooking and won’t charge you a cancelation fee if you cancel your trip more than 30 days before your arrival date.

If you cancel less than 30 days before arrival, our general cancelation terms apply.

Our Book with Confidence promise has you covered if you need to change your plans for Covid-related reasons. If this happens, you can change your travel dates or cancel your trip up to 72 hours before you leave for Iceland without losing a penny.

If you’re a citizen of the EEA, you can travel to Iceland using your passport or national identity card visa-free. Otherwise, you’ll need a valid passport with at least 3 months left on it before expiry.

Citizens of many countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand can travel to Iceland for up to 90 days visa-free. Check the Icelandic Directorate of Immigration’s visa-free travel list to find out if you’re eligible.

If you do need a visa, let us know once we’ve confirmed your booking and we can send you a confirmation letter for your visa application.

Yes! Iceland is one of the safest countries on Earth. Thanks to its extremely low crime rate and excellent healthcare system, you can rest assured that you don’t need to worry about your safety in Iceland.

Around the country, you’ll see children left to their own devices to happily play outside or walk to school by themselves. It’s so safe that babies are even left in prams outside cafés, so don’t be shocked if you see this. Iceland is a fantastic place for kids to run wild, totally carefree!

You might have heard about natural disasters like volcanic eruptions or earthquakes. Iceland has well tested warning and evacuation systems in place. And if a volcano just so happens to go off on your trip, it’s likely to be in an uninhabited area. In fact, some of them are great to go and visit.

To hire a rental car in Iceland, you’ll need to be at least 20 years old, or 23 years old for jeeps or vans. You’ll also need to have held your driver’s license for at least 1 year. To confirm the booking and pay your holding deposit, you’ll also need a credit card.

If you’re from the EU, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, you can drive in Iceland with your driver’s license from home.

Iceland uses the two-pin Europlug socket, which is the same as continental Europe. If you’re traveling from the UK or Ireland, you’ll simply need an adapter.

The voltage in Iceland is 220V, so if you’re coming from North America, make sure your device is rated for 220V or use a voltage converter. Most plug adapters don’t convert the voltage, so double-check before you plug your device into the wall.

Iceland has its own currency, the Icelandic króna (plural: krónur, code: ISK). You can check the latest exchange rate with your local currency on the websites of Icelandic banks like Landsbankinn or Arion banki.

Card payment is preferred almost everywhere in Iceland and some places do not accept cash at all. 

If you do want to carry some cash, you can exchange and withdraw cash at any bank. This is normally cheaper than buying Icelandic krónur before you arrive in Iceland.
