Iceland is known for the awe-inspiring, Northern Lights — or, as they also are known, the Aurora Borealis. On a clear night, this spectacular phenomenon illuminates the sky, starting to be visible in September and continuing through the the end of April. However, in past years the Northern Lights season is getting longer and longer; in 2017 the first visible Northern Lights was in August.
The colors of the Northern Lights can vary from green and white to incredible combinations of purple, pink, red, orange and blue. The Northern Lights, often rightfully described as dancing lights in the sky, are a unique experience and something special to be seen for the unique vantage point that only Iceland can offer.
