Hvítserkur
Along the eastern shore of the Vatnsnes peninsula this magnificiant sea stack rises 15 meters from sea level. According to Icelandic folklore Hvítserkur is a troll that lived in Strandir in the Westfjord. The troll was annoyed by the sounds of Þingeyraklaustur convent church bells and decided to cross the bay in order to destroy the bells. He was unable to finish his mission since on his way the troll was caught by daylight and turned to stone for eternity. Hvítserkur is a home to many bird species, for example gulls and fulmars, and seals can often be spotted swimming in the bay or relaxing in the black sand.
