Our destination of the day is Landmannalaugar, often referred to as the “pearl of the highlands” of Iceland with lava fields, hot springs and mountains of amazing colors that form the breathtaking landscape.
We head into the interior of the South Region and soon we will be driving on a track formed by ash and pumice located at the foot of Mount Hekla, one of Iceland’s most famous volcanoes. In our jeep we climb as high as 1000 m (3280') above sea level to enjoy fascinating view over the Torfajökull area and weather permitting, some of Iceland’s glaciers as well.
We are now in of the largest geothermal areas in Iceland where fire and ice shape the landscape. We will visit the Hrafntinnusker area and will have some fun crossing rivers (without a bridge) until we reach Landmannalaugar the country’s most famous location for hot spring bathing, we spent some time exploring this untouched nature before returning back to Reykjavik.
